Danger in Dismissing

Over the past several weeks, I have looked at more obituaries than ever before. As I received yet another text with heart-aching news, many questions flooded my mind. Why him/her? Why now? How did this happen? Where were their friends and family? Did no one see the danger that was waging within them?

And then quickly I remembered the book of Romans and the downward spiral of man.

Young people didn't die in past decades like they do today... at least not for the same reasons. In centuries past, "young people" already had major responsibilities and viewed life in a completely different manner than we do in today's society.

Today we have an irrational perspective upon life. We say there is an end, yet we live like we are invincible. We say we grieve for those who are suffering and under Satan's affliction, yet we only really care if it affects us or our surroundings. Now-a-days, the world really does revolve around "us."

One more step away...

Too many times the death of a young person can be prevented. Parents are too afraid of the way they or their families will be viewed if they take action and get their child help. Friends hide their friends pain and secrets because it's easier than facing them. Society in general dismisses crucial signals and signs that are presented because it's no longer politically correct to confront them.

One more step away...

Yet I sit back and watch as our politically correct society spirals downward out of control. People are filling voids in their life with things of this world that will never satisfy them. So the war that is waging within them fuels itself until complete destruction has occurred.

One more step away...

I grieve for the families who have lost their loved ones, for children who are now orphaned, and friends who will never forget what happened. I pray these horrific times do not slide by the wayside, but rather that it changes a life. I pray people stand up and stop dismissing behavior simply because it's easier on them if they didn't confront the problem. I pray society in general stops sweeping things under the rug and begins to battle the psychiatric war that is plaguing our world.

Things do not change on their own--people make the change.

I'm a believer that He is strong enough to hold you now where you are.

No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home--
Here in the power of Christ I Stand

Rewind

This summer has been by far one of the busiest summers around our house. From remodeling and moving, to building a barn & fence on top of the usual football events, I feel like I'm catching myself coming and going. Thus, the blog has taken a backseat for the majority of the summer. Now that school is starting, I'm wishfully (key word here) hoping that our schedules will begin to slow down and we will find some sort of "normalcy" around the house (however "normal" may be during football season at the coaches house).

However, with all of that said, I am EXCITED for those Friday night lights to be switched on while the boys make their way on the field in their bright gold jerseys! People may think I'm crazy, but there is just nothing like Friday Night Football in the South.

In the mean time, I thought I'd leave a few preview pictures of the house now that the remodel is the coming to a close (once life is a bit slower-- I'll make a remodel post). I am very pleased with how everything has turned out. It completely transformed this house! It's amazing what a little wood and paint can do to a place.

Swing by next week for pictures from our Golden Demon Media Day!

Have a blessed day!

Don't Trust Google

So today, while my husband was graciously taking care of the workers we had at the house, I snuck away for a quick manicure. My husband and I have been invited to an event this weekend and I wanted to make sure I was looking my best.

So after a quick google search, I headed towards what was supposed to be a top rated nail salon in southern Tulsa.

I have only been a client of two different nails ladies. Ever. In my entire life. So this was quite the adventure for me. But with google by my side I thought surely everything would go smoothly.

Boy was I WRONG.

Now I remember why I drove home from college to get my nails done. Why I drove from our last home  back to my hometown to get my nails done. There is just something about the sweet lady back in my hometown and her precious, thin, real-looking nails that I will never be able to get over.

My husband is just as much of a fan of my beloved, thin nails as I am. We have a deal-- I get nails, he gets nightly back scratches. It's perfect! Until now... until I ventured away from my beloved nail lady.

After an hour of painful drills, bleeding cuticles and getting completely ripped off with a price gauge, I headed out. My nails were at least 4 times as thick as my beloved, thin nails. They were pretty from the top, but the minute I turned my hand over things changed.

At first I thought I might have been slightly over-reacting. Maybe I'm just stuck in my ways? Maybe I just need to chill, it's just nails, right?

WRONG.

I walked in the front door to our house and my husband looked down, before I ever said a word and his response was "Wowza! Who did that?!".... not something you want to hear.

So I quickly called my faithful nail lady in my hometown and begged her to squeeze me in before the event this weekend. No amount of driving time can compare to thin, real-looking/feeling nails.

Lesson for the day: Don't trust Google.

So ladies in the Tulsa area, I need advice on a good nail salon?! If you have a favorite, shoot it my way!

Never Nice

I always know the season has begun when I walk into my husband's office and immediately leave after simply taking one sniff. I have yet to understand how EVERY locker room smells exactly the same. There is no such thing as a nice locker room. It may be clean, it may be organized, but never nice. Not with the odor that those rooms produce. No way that could ever be classified as nice.

Thus, I swiftly made my way to Bath & Body and picked up some wall-scents. Oh the trusty wall-scents, how you make me smile. I always buy my husbands favorite scent in bulk when I go. He even is to the point where he begins to ask for them now-- and if any of you have husbands you know how big of a deal this is! The first time he asked me to go get him "smelly good things" I about passed out. Maybe, just maybe he has seen the light?!

So after a few days of the wall-scents being pugged in, the coaches offices are at least tolerable. (notice I didn't say pleasant.. simply tolerable)

Oh the life of a coaches wife is never dull... Thankfully those smells stay at the field house. This candle loving woman would be frantic every football season if those smells followed my husband home. Thank you, thank you, Lord.

Now that I'm off of my rant, I'll leave you with a few pictures of the team at our last 7on7. Way to go Demons! You're starting to look pretty good out there!

Moving Madness

Exciting and crazy times have arrived once again in our household. All of the remodeling has finish and boxes are piled high around us.

The weekend before our official "move" Lee and I hosted a retreat for all of his fellow Football Coaches and their wives. It was so nice to just get away, into a beautiful cabin on the lake-- and the best part NO CELL SERVICE! Everyone was ecstatic about the lack of communication available to the rest of the world for the night. I, myself, was happy to not hear my husband's phone ringing constantly. Oh the joys of being a coach.

The guys spent the majority of their stay on the lake. When a dear friend of Lee & I invited them to go fishing, they swiftly jumped at the chance! The ladies on the other hand enjoyed sweet fellowship on the shore with sweet tea and lemonade at hand.

Two days later, we packed all our boxes in to the moving van and headed to our new home. Although it was slightly scary and sad to leave our first home and friends that we will always consider to be dear, we both were/are excited to see what the Lord has in store for us in our new town. So in faith we headed west.

Change doesn't always have to be scary. Some of my biggest fears the Lord swiftly took from my mind.

Less than a day after we moved, we were welcomed into a home where I was able to meet so many friendly faces. Not only were these faces warm and welcoming, but they were like-minded. As a coaches wife, I am always on guard. Always wondering, "what information are they trying to get out of me?" or "Are they just befriending me because they want more playing time for their child?" (which I obviously have absolutely no control, nor do I want control, over who plays and who does not play on Friday nights). But all of these thoughts rolling around in my mind slowly came to rest as I began to get to know a pastor's wife from our new found home. At the risk of sounding creepy, I actually felt like I already knew her, as I ran across her blog several months ago through the pastors wife at our former church (confusing enough? I think so.) Mrs. Gore's blog is just precious. If you haven't come across her blog yet, I highly recommend you skip over and get to know her adorable family. Her heart of gold is evident to all who read. [Click here to read Mrs. Gore's Diary]

Needless to say, I went home that night much more at ease. The Lord knew just what I needed and when I needed it. It was as if He was wrapping me up in His arms saying that He IS in control. He will bring us friends despite the fact that we are now farther from family. He will take care of Lee and I. We are His children and He loves us more than I will ever be able to grasp. That night, I felt the comforting hands of my loving Abba Father.

As chaotic as the past few weeks have been, it has been some of the most meaningful weeks. Although the boxes are still plaguing us and the world around us seems to be spinning faster than we can move, I have enjoyed every moment (except for the day our air conditioner broke and it got to a whopping 90 degrees in our little home).

So here's to the next time I'm able to rise out of the mounds of laundry and piles of boxes... and to hoping the internet gets connected in our house soon!

Pray For Oklahoma

My heart is aching tonight after hearing about the horrific storms that roared through my state earlier today. I can't even begin to imagine the pain and sorrow that are filling the minds and homes of many in the OKC/Moore areas. Although I will never understand certain things in this life, one thing I am certain of- my God is reigning and ruling and will always remain in completely control of every single detail in our lives. Tonight, I will rest in this assurance.

Kitchen Transformation {Part 1}

Like most women, I love a pretty kitchen. Consequently, much of my attention during our remodel has been given to our kitchen. I mean, who doesn't want to cook and do dishes in a pretty space?!

The Lord was gracious enough to lead us to a builder in town who has a knack for cabinetry. When we purchased the house, my brain didn't even think about the slight changes that could be made to the kitchen cabinets in order to add definition and style. All I could think about was getting rid of the hideous mantle that plagued the living room.

Although the cabinets are not quite completed, here is a sneak peak my husband snapped for me yesterday. I am THRILLED with how well they are turning out!
While waiting for the completed cabinets, I went to to work on the sink and faucet. Who knew there were SO many options? It's slightly ridiculous... I knew I wanted a farmhouse sink, but I didn't know what brand or what style... oh the decisions!

THE SINK

I ended up deciding on a single bowl Rohl Shaw Fireclay Sink. A dear friend of mine purchased a fireclay sink last fall for her kitchen and she adores it.
Single Bowl Rohl Shaw Fireclay Sink
Here's a little more information on their Shaw Sinks if you're interested:

"Authentically crafted fireclay sinks are made of a unique clay capable of being fired at extremely high temperatures. These high temperatures cause the clay and glaze to fuse together, virtually creating an entirely new form. This clay is found in limited regions around the world, making true fireclay sinks some of the most durable sink options. Resistant to acid, alkali, scratches and impact many fireclay sinks outlive the very spaces for which they were created. ROHL's fireclay sinks are crafted with environmentally friendly materials and are completely lead free and recyclable."

But beware, these British sinks are HEAVY! They weigh in at a whopping 161 lbs!

Random Fact: 80-90% of sinks are made with the drain on the left and the badge on the back; however, right hand sinks are sent out randomly.

THE FAUCET

I must say, this decision was much easier. In our last remodel, I installed a Delta pull-out faucet and we have loved every minute of it! Consequently, I knew I wanted another pull-out faucet. While shopping for the sink, I came across this new faucet that hides the pull-out so when simply looking at the sink, you would never know it pulls-out. The best of both worlds! So I shopped around until I found the best price and then quickly placed my order. Hello Brizo Solna!

Although we still have quite a few weeks left of construction, I am chomping at the bit to see the finished result. As much as I love remodeling, I also love when it's FINISHED! :)

SOLD!

A load of stress on our shoulders has been lifted!
House #1 is officially off the market!
YIPPEE!!!
I've never been more excited to see a sign in our yard than I was this afternoon when I came home to see this...

I'm sure this is not quite as exciting to the rest of the world as it is to Lee and I. This is truly an answer to prayer! The thought of having two houses to keep clean, two yards to mow/water all summer long, two sets of bills (YIKES!) and everything else involved with home ownership of TWO, I tell you TWO houses is a tad bit stressful. BUT, thankfully the Lord was gracious enough to lead the buyers to our door step. Literally. The timing couldn't have been more perfect. I will be done with school before boxes begin to pile up.

I'm so incredibly grateful for such a generous Heavenly Father, who takes care of even the smallest details in our lives.
